My Vision for Corruption Free India
World Bank has defined corruption as ‘the use of public office for private profit’. Accordingly, in our country, the main players running this vicious cycle can be classified into five main categories- corrupt politician, corrupt bureaucrat, corrupting businessman, corrupt NGO and criminal of the underworld. On the similar lines corruption can be classified into three scales namely- Petty Corruption, Grand Corruption and Systematic Corruption. While the first one is more pertinent in developing countries at a smaller scale, the second one occurs at the highest levels of government and the last one is primarily due to weaknesses of an organization.
This is a macroscopic view of the word ‘Corruption’, but in my views this is such a serious term that the above mentioned definition has to be modified into what I call- “Intentional Nonperformance”. What it means is that if you throw even a toffee wrapper on the street then its corruption, if you don’t stand in a queue properly then its corruption, if you are infidel in your relationships then its corruption, if you use even private office for personal gains then its corruption, if you don’t respect your elders then its corruption, and so on. In nutshell, ‘any behavior which deviates a person from his or her normal duties is corruption’.
In the case of macroscopic definition, corruption is a two way street, for every bribe taker there is a bribe giver. So a stop has to be put there on the demand side as well as on the supply side of the corruption by various administrative, political, judicial and socio-economic measures. But what if we start to nip this evil in the bud at the very start- at Ground Zero i.e. at school level because the biggest lag in our system is the proper literacy, awareness and education of the masses. In my view, India can become a true corrupt free state only if we take into account the corruption head on in every sphere of our personal lives.
Former American President Late J.F. Kennedy once rightly said “Ask not what your country can do for you; ask what you can do for your country”. Similarly, it’s not important what others are doing in your vicinity but the foremost thing is
how you perform your duties. These values can only be inculcated at the school level when the little minds are in developing stage. This will sensitize them towards the condition and evils of the society and make them understand how this cancerous disease can make the whole nation empty economically as well as spiritually.
So, conclusively the vision which I have for a corruption free India is very clear- ‘Eliminate the evil from the roots’ and the method very easy-‘Do your duty with utmost sincerity’. In the words of Swami Vivekananda, “Work is Worship” should be the religion of every single citizen of this holy land, and then only we can work towards our goals of development and can make our motherland truly a ‘Swachh Bharat’.
